Tomas, are you using the Stable version (4.12.0)? if so, the default is configure --enable-optimize, and then compilation of gdk_scanselect.c indeed take quite some time --- just be patient and let it run --- or configure explicitely with --disable-optimize to speed-up compilation (at the expense of possibly slower code). I would like to ask whether there have been attempts to compile MonetDB on AMD Athlon 64 mobile achitecture OS Fedora Core 5 (64 bit version). On mobile chips we haven't tested, but on our own systems with athlon64's and Fedora Core 5 it takes a while to compile this file, especially with full optimisations on. 20 minutes sounds a bit long though. What's your CPU speed? And what is the active CPU speed when compiling MonetDB?

I cc monetdb-users list, as maybe someone else has more experience with compiling on your CPU.
